Tractor Pulls

The Manjimup Speedway Club held a Tractor Pull, Burnouts and a challenging Extreme 4WD course on Sunday to compliment the Moto Madness.  The crowd started streaming in around 9-45am and witnessed something new in the Region.  Tractor pulls have been around for quite some time, but it is the first time it has been held in Manjimup.  Club volunteers worked frantically over the past three weeks to prepare a 100m track through the middle of the infield for the purpose built mini tractors to attempt to pull a weight transfer box filled with concrete which is on a sliding incline.  There is also a scoop on the front of the transfer box which builds up with mud as the tractor moves forward making even more resistance.  The sled operates in 1 st ,2 nd , and 3 rd Gear depending on the Class of tractor.  A handicapper sits on the back of the sled and controls how fast the weight transfer box moves up the incline.  When it starts, the box weighs 4.5 Ton up to 10-12 Tons at the top.  The tractors then attempt through all these obstacles to pull the sled as far along the 100m track as possible, whilst keeping the front wheels on the track and not losing control.

The burnout guys created huge enormous plumes of smoke and were greeted by cheering and applause from the audience.  A number of competitors attempted the Extreme 4WD track, which wasn't for the faint hearted.  It stumped quite a few, as you can see from the picture, but those who made it through unaided were rewarded with $50 for their efforts.

The Club was very pleased with the torn out considering the short preparation time.  Comments were very encouraging, with a number of those in attendance interested in building a mini tractor.  Specifications are available from the Speedway Club.  Judging by the reception, the club will hold a number of similar events later on in the year.  The Club would like to sincerely thank all those who gave their time and machinery to make the day a success.
