McKAY V8 DIRT MODIFIED HITS THE TRACK

Greg McKay has been the first of the Western Australian V8 Dirt Modifieds to have a hit out in preparation for the 2008-09 season after fronting his car at Ellenbrook Speedway on August 17th with exciting youngster Bryn Lake at the wheel.

McKay along with WA club president Vin Smith have produced extensive geometric changes to the rear of the former Adrian King Tracktec chassis car and wanted the chance to analyse the performance prior to the commencement of the upcoming season in the West which will be highlighted by the running of the 2009 Australian V8 Dirt Modified Championship at Manjimup Speedway on February 20 and 21.

"The whole rear end geometrics have been modified so as to screw the car closer down to the track which we see as being a huge advantage on a tacky surface track like Manjimup Speedway and after our initial testing run two weeks this has proven to be along the right path as our lap times between last April at the WA State Title and now have improved by up to two seconds per lap" said McKay.

"The reason for Bryn Lake driving the car was actually based along the fact that I just wanted to see the car go around from the outside of the track looking in and see how the imrpovements went as from sitting in the drivers seat you do not get a realistic perspective for body roll and car balance."

But the car rolled off the trailer and produced the goods right from the start as it had got rid of its habit of wanting to kick and bounce through the turns and showed a rythmic flow with 'Hollywood Lake' behind the wheel and actually produced lap times similar to that of the Mark Giancola Super Sedan also on the circuit at the same time having a hit out prior to the new season opening.

"Along with advice from Peter Cox and Norm Kennedy on the day we were able to steadily improve the performance of the car throughout the four race hitout and the excitment is now building towards the start of the upcoming seaon."

The former Rookie of the Year has also changed the colour scheme from the sky blue format of last year to a striking gloss black format which will now be enhanced with the addition of pink and yellow graphics so as to produce a race car which will be presented in such a way so as to showcase the division in the upcomng promotions in the South-West of Western Australia for the upcoming National Title.

"The interest shown by drivers of V8 Dirt Modifeds from the Eastern Shores is certainly growing and I think this title will be nothing but a roaring success for the division and the positive approach is being cast by all I speak to including those from overseas in similar classes encourages me to think that we are headed on the right track."
